     ALSO don't forget to volunteer with Dianne K for the Exhibition, that is our Fredericton Frex quilt, which this year is the Nova quilt pattern.  See my previous post.  After the Executive meeting this week, I hope to have more information for you.

   Our first meeting of ECQG is Wednesday Sept 4th at 7pm at Gibson Memorial.  SEE YOU THERE!!

Hello all,

I  had a call from Sandra Day this afternoon about the Frex and ECQG’s booth of hand quilting and ticket selling.

The challenge, for those who don’t know, is that the Guild needs to cover from Monday September 2nd to Saturday the 7th.  Hours of coverage are from 12pm -10pm daily, with at least 4 people/shift desired. (3 shifts to choose from, noon-3, 3-6 and  6-10)  

There is a bit of a problem however,  Sandra our big organizer is having cataract surgery on Tuesday the 26th. She of course has no idea HOW she is going to feel, and WHAT she is going to be able to do!  So, we need to really step up this year!!   This is our major fund raiser for the year.  

For our new members, the quilt that we each made blocks for this year, the Nova blocks, have been put together by Sandra, and it will be put on quilt frames at the Frex.  Now ... you DO NOT have to be able to hand quilt, but it is a great place to sit and learn.  It also is a super time to get to know one another, and there are times that many guild members come day after day, because it is really alot of fun!  If you don’t want to quilt, or cannot, or are unable, don’t fret, you can always sell tickets on the quilt itself (thus the fundraiser aspect).  There is always space for you to sit and chat as well helping to keep the quilters company.

  So, Dianne Kelly, our fearless leader,  has been given the assignment of scheduling (by me and Sandra).  No doubt there will be a communication regarding this from Dianne soon.  Any help in this aspect of the project is also gratefully accepted as well.

  Oh yes, Sandra and Kim also decorate the large booth with a background of quilts (and those are ready to go up), but Sandra may call upon some members to help with this set up Friday or Saturday of the Labour Day weekend.  The other thing that Sandra mentioned is that she and Kim will put the quilt on the frame on Sunday and they will also be around each evening to quilt (all things going smoothly).

  Let us wish Sandra good luck on the 26th and come out and support the Frex Project.

Blocks and quilt tops for Alberta

  Before the end of July, a package was sent by Joan B to Alberta with 48 blocks and 10 quilt tops for the flood victims of Alberta.

  Thanks everyone and a special thank you to our postman Joan!  I know that others in our Guild made and sent blocks on their own as well.  Thank you all, it was a worthy cause and I hope that the warmth that the competed quilts provide gives comfort to those who lost so much.

Alberta Flood Victims

  As Canadians, we are all well aware of the sad summer thus far in Alberta with the extreme flooding that has occurred.  So sad for so many.  Cheryl Arkison, of Calgary is putting together blocks in August of donated 15.5 inch squares.  See http://naptimequilter.blogspot.ca/2013/06/slabs-for.html for details, and/or read below:

Here are the basics:

Make a slab 15.5'' square. You can insert the white bit or not, that's your choice. Just aim to make your block in a single colour. Make as many as you like.

Our inspiration for these quilts is The Missing U quilt from Sunday Morning Quilts.

How do you make a slab? If you have the book, refer to the directions on pages 48-49. If you don't have the book let me summarize how to make a slab:  just ignore the following "space","missing plug in".  I cannot seem to delete it and I am on a deadline . hahaha...

Take two pieces of fabric and sew them together. Do that a few more times. Then start sewing more pieces to those first pairs. Sew groups together. Add additional pieces of fabric as necessary to get up to your finished size. Start with small bits or big ones, it doesn't matter. Raid your scrap bins and go with what you've got.

Lucy Gallagher is a STAR!!!

Look what happened...

Lucy Gallagher, who is the 3rd from the left in the front row in this photograph, has been inducted into the NB Hall of Fame with her team of St Dunstan's CYO Softball players(1949-1953).  Lucy's team won the NB Senior ladies championships and went on to win the Maritime title in 1953.  It must have been so exciting for these girls.

I was so happy to bump in to Lucy and hear this wonderful news.  I was so excited for our Guildmate Lucy that I thought it only right to share it with our Guild "sisters".

CONGRATULATIONS LUCY!!

We are all so proud of you and happy for you. (Just like your children and grandchildren who I know are also pleased and PROUD of you!)

June 2013 meeting's Show and Tell

   Well good Rainy/Windy Saturday Morning all,

  Last Wednesday evening was our last meeting of this season and I was not feeling well, so didn't make it to this meeting.  But I heard via our grapevine that it was a good meeting of food and quilters with lots of conversation and friendship.  Good stuff!

  Marj Deveau took photos for us (THANK YOU!!) and I will show them here.  I will not label any because I don't know the creators of many of these works so won't label any.  Those of you who know, know...and those of you who don't, well it doesn't matter I guess.

  Ok lets get started.
