Sandra Day thanked everyone who had completed blocks and who had gone to the Frex to help out with the quilting...everyone's effort contributed to approximately 1480.00 dollars being raised so far with the raffle quilt.

Mystery quilt

Jeannita Robinson presented the mystery quilt instructions to us at our guild meeting,

tone on tone: 2 3/4 yards
light print scraps: 1 7/8 yards

step 1:

cut (80) 6 inch squares out of your tone on tone for the 70x86 quilt or,
cut (110) 6 inch squares out of your tone on tone for the 86x94 quilt

Calais quilt show

we saw some fellow ECQG members there at the quilt show, I'm sure the Calais Quilt Guild, and their town was happy to see us there with our wallets! What a lovely show they put on, and the cookies were super yummy too! Can't wait for next year!

I spy progress

Remember the swap that Gail Mitchell and I held in the spring? Well, we had 66 quilters sign up from the local Guilds, for the “120-block-each" swap, and we had 100% participation! How great was that? The fabric variety was incredible and it really was a fun project. Thanks to everyone of ECQG that participated!


I thought that I would show you how I am using my 5 inch squares. The Cottonmill Guild held an I Spy workshop in September and I attended, with Don Coles as the instructor. I cut each block into a hexagon and set it with 60 degree triangles ...so here is where I am so far. When I finish I will show the finished product.

At the frex

For the last several years, as a fundraising project for ECQG, Sandra Day and her daughter Kim, have organized and carried out a quilt making project by and for our Guild members. Quilt fabric and squares have been sewn and given by guild members to Sandra (on her direction) and she and Kim have put together various patterned quilts that are hand-quilted at the Frex. The quilt and hand-quilting is a demonstration of the venerable technique and introduces passers by to the art. It is fun, as hand-quilters, pros or newbies, often stop and join us to quilt or chat for a bit. It is always a successful project, despite the work involved to set up such a project. Volunteers from ECQG come in shifts to “man the site”, quilt, talk, giggle, and to sell tickets on the finished project. Kim Day, seller extraordinaire is a great salesperson and a good example of how to generate sales! Some Guild members feel that they are better at selling and chatting than quilting, and so we all find a comfort level with something as we “do our time”! Thanks to everyone who donates their time but a special THANK YOU to SANDRA and KIM!

The Fredericton Exhibition provides a forum to display quilts as part of the Handicraft exhibit of the Frex. These are judged by the Frex judges every year. This year the ECQG was not only well represented but there were so many of our participants deemed winners!! The Grand Champions are pictured here with Sharon Daley and Doris Kilburn winning for their sections. Darlene Dewar took home SIX ribbons, Bertha Mazerolle won at least 3 ribbons, Joyce Newman won one for her stunning applique and there were others, including Ann Coles and her husband Don. There may be people I am forgetting and if so please add them to our winners list by commenting. Congratulations to all.
